No doubt, systemic racism has contributed to the rise in food deserts and health disparities among black communities.
No doubt, health food companies market mainly to white audiences.

No doubt, quality of healthcare is compromised when the practitioner lacks cultural competence or deals with unconscious/conscious racial bias. .

No doubt, black dietitians are underrepresented in the health and nutrition space.

No doubt, access to dietitians is hard to come by to many black communities, whether it be due to location or price.

Whew, I can go on and on…
Our health is on the frontlines.
There are so many barriers created by the system that try to attack our health. While it’s usually referred to as social determinants, I’ll just call it as I see it, RACISM.
GRITS’ exists to counter those attacks. We have a multifaceted approach that involves the acquisition of tools to ultimately empower us to protect our health and grow our Resilience. Our focus is on increasing access to Registered Dietitians, building food literacy skills, and expanding food/nutrition knowledge that’s relative to our culture. We are bridging the gaps, so that our communities can thrive in their health. We are resilient.
